EXCUSED ABSENCES
Students must bring in a note after each day they are absent. The note must include the date absent, the reason for the absence, a phone number where a parent or guardian can be reached, and the parent or guardian’s signature. Students will be given the opportunity to make up work for excused absences. Excused absences may include:
- An illness or injury that prevents the student from attending school. The illness or injury must be verified by a health care provider (after three day absent), school nurse, or parent.
- A death in the immediate family (parent, sibling, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin) or other significant personal or family crisis
- Court appearances
- Medical or psychological tests during the school day. The parent must show evidence (such as a note from a health center) that the tests could not be scheduled after school.
- Religious holy days
- Other extraordinary situations approved by the school principal.
IMPORTANT: Some parents think that any absence will be excused as long as the parent sends a note. This is not true.
AUSENCIAS CON EXCUSA
El estudiante debe de traer una nota cada dia que no se presente a la escuela. La nota debe de incluir la fecha de ausencia, la razon por la ausencia, y el numero de telefono donde un padre o un guardian puede ser contactado y la firma del padre o guardian. Estudiantes deben dar la oportunidad de hacer el trabajo de la escuela . En las ausencias con excusa sera:
- Alguna enfermedad o alguna herida que evite que el estudiante asista a la escuela. La enfermedad o heridad debe de ser verificada por un doctor (despues de 3 ausencias) por la enfermera o el padre.
- La muerte de un pariente, como padres, hermano, abuelo, tio, tio, primo o una causa de una crisis familiar.
- Aparicion en la corte.
- Examenes medicos o psicologicos durante el dia de la escuela. El papa tiene que demostrar evidencias (como una nota del centro de salud) que el examen no pudo ser programado despues de la escuela.
- Dias Religiosos
- Otra extraordinaria situacion siendo aprovada por el director de la escuela.
IMPORTANTE: Algunos padres piensan que una ausencia puede ser justificada siempre y cuando manden un nota. Esto es erroneo.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES
Here are a few examples of absences that are unexcused even if the parent sends a note:
- Repetitive and chronic absence due to illness or injury. In these cases, the parent must submit a letter from a health care provider verifying that the student was too sick or injured to go to school.
- Student needed to baby-sit
- Cutting class
- Family vacation/Day Trip/Jump Start to the Weekend
- Extension of a religious or cultural holiday beyond the designated day or days.
Whenever possible, parents should check with the principal before allowing a child to miss school if they are not sure the absence will be excused. The school does not have to help a student make up work due to unexcused absences.
AUSENCIAS SIN EXCUSA
Aqui hay unos pocos ejemplos de ausencias que no son justificadas aunque el padre mande una nota:
- Repetitivas faltas por enfermedad cronica o heridas. En este caso, el papa debe de mandar una carta a su doctor verificando que el estudiante estaba enfermo para ir a la escuela.
- El estudiante tiene que cuidar a los ninos
- Faltar a clases
- Vacaciones familiares
Extension de actividades religiosas o culturales mas haya de los designados dias de la escuela.
Cuando sea posible, papas deben checar con el director antes de permitir que su hijo falte a la escuela si no estan seguros que la ausencia puede ser excenta. La escuela no es responsable por ayudar a su hijo que haga el trabajo escolar atrasado.
TARDINESS
A student is tardy if she/he arrives at school late, without an excused reason, and does not have sufficient time for the start of the instructional day or period.
*After a student is tardy for secondary school five times, a parental meeting will be required and/or in-school disciplinary action may be taken.
TARDANSAS
Un estudiante se le califica tardansa si el o ella llega a la escuela tarde, sin una excusa o razon valida.
Cuando un estudiante llega tarde mas de 5 veces, una junta con los padres se organiza para usar medidas disciplinarias.
ATTENDANCE OFFICER
The Attendance Officer will make house and school visits regarding excessive absence, excessive tardiness, and truancy and will investigate and make recommendations in all school cases in juvenile court and in all cases of school offenders and truants. The attendance officer is empowered to pick up truant students in the community and bring them to school. Parents will be contacted and informed about follow-up and/or disciplinary action.
OFICINA DE ASISTENCIA
La oficina de asistencia hara visitas a casa o a la escuela en cuanto a extensas faltas, excesivas tardanzas y truancy y se hara una investigacion y recomendaciones en la escuela en casos con la corte judicial y en todos los casos de ofensa o truants.
El oficial de asistencia tiene la autoridad de tomar a un truant estuiante en la comunidad y traerlo a la escuela Padres podran ser contactados e informarles hacerca de las acciones disciplinarias a seguir.
PARENTS’ LEGAL RESPONSIBILTIES FOR ENSURING STUDENTS’ ATTENDANCE (M.G.L. c. 76 §2)
Parents or legal guardians are required to see that their children attend school regularly. Failure to do so may result in the Attendance Officer filing a 51A petition for a Child in Need of Services (CHINS) with the Department of Social Services or seeking juvenile court fines pursuant to M.G.L. 76 §2 or criminal charges pursuant to M.G.L. c. 119 §63.
ES RESPONSABILIDAD DE LOS PADRES ASEGURARSE QUE LOS HIJOS ASISTAN A LA ESCUELA
Padres o guardianes legales necesitan ver que los ninos asistan a la escuela regularmente. El no hacerlo le causara una falta a la Oficina de Asistencia llenando una forma 51ª para que chequen los servicios de Ninos con el departamento de Servicio Social o la corte juvenil forma MGL 76 2 o cargos criminales cargos MGL c 119 63.
DISMISSALS
A parent/guardian requesting an early dismissal for her/his child must submit to the Attendance Office a note stating the reason, date and time of the dismissal. Dismissals by telephone are accepted only in rare emergencies and must be verified by the Attendance Office. The student must be picked up at the office and signed out of school by her/his parent/guardian. Dismissals during school hours must be kept to a minimum.
SALIDAS
Una peticion de los padres de que salga su hijo de la escuela temprano tiene que ser emitida a las oficinas administrativas con una nota especificando las razones, dia y tiempo de la salida.
Salidas por telefono son aceptadas unicamente en casos de emergencias y deben de ser verificadas por las oficinas de Asistencia. El estudiante debe de ser recojido en la oficina y firmar la forma junto con la firma del padre. Salidas durante las horas de la escuela deben de ser minimas.
SCHOOL DANCE
If a student has the following on their record within a quarter they cannot attend a school dance or other school functions. Each quarter the slate is wiped cleaned and the student can start over.
5 or more unexcused tardies
2 or more unexcused absences
1 or more ISS
1 or more JRC
1 or more Suspension
Overdue books or fines with the library
BAILE ESCOLAR
Si un estudiante tiene lo siguiente en su record en el quarto, no podra asistir a el baile escolar o a otro tipo de funciones. Cada cuartolas formas se limpian y el estudiante puede empezar limpio.
5 o mas tardanzas
